Hmmm, Wanted a 29er for some time but didn't think I needed one, since I have a lovely custom Steel bike. But the fat-tired siren song was too much to resist. I was over at my B-I-L Dave's house. I spotted a yellow GaryFisher Paragon warrranty replacement frame still in bubble wrap. Bright shimmery Yellow Pearl. (JK! get away from that frame its Aluminum!) Too Late, Drool..... Sold it to me for a song and threw in a Surly fork. Dave dropped it off the other day, and I was off to the races. Went down to the Monkey Wrench and picked up a a headset and shopped........duh, ordered a set of wheels. Once you buy a headset, well, you need a stem to go with it so the fork doesn't fall out, and some spacers. Building a bike is very much like the "Give a pig a Pancake" books, you always need something else. Bought some bits, seatpost, tubes, etc locally. Ordered a few bits, mulled over SRAM vs Shimano rear drive train. Settled on 1:1 SRAM gripshifts, simple is the goal of this bike. Nate ordered me a old XT front der. that has better rear tire clearence.
Agonized over bars, Titec Jones's, Mary Bars, settled on some 11 deg. Salsa Motos. (to be cont.)
