Getting my Commute on.

Nice cool morning, so I rode to Zoo school to sub for the Science Teacher, Its only 2.5 miles but its a nice way to start the morning. Mark had a nice purple 80's vintage
Bianchi, made in Italy he'd gotten at a UNL auction. I was jealous, I miss my old steel trek. I'm toying with the idea of building the 29er yellow bike up and using in the winter. maybe a 3 speed internal hub and some snow tires

sliding in under the wire

Got out yesterday late in the day, with Chris D., Jeff D. Ryan B., Dave B. and moi, headed out on the Mopac from 84th street trail head. Rolled out on a stellar day around 75 degrees. Thought we were going to Eagle and back, about 18 miles, but Eagle came and went, apparently Wabash was the real goal, Ryan, Jeff and I turned back at around the 15 mile mark, since we only had an hour before dark. Chris and Dave continued on to the end of the trail. Ryan and I pulled back into the driveway just after the sun dipped below the horizon with 30 miles on the odometer. Jeff rolled in a few more minutes past that. Chris and Dave got to do about an hour in the dark with a couple of blinky lights for company, but pulled 52 miles, Chris was on his fixie.  Good little spin

59 degrees after Christmas

Denise, Will and I all headed out for a post Christmas vacation ride. It was very warm, so we threw a leg over our bikes and headed down the mopac trail. South for a bit and then North to check out the new tunnel under 'A' street. They changed the grade, and added a second tunnel, on the side to the waterway.

Turkey Day Riding Extravaganza

Ok, little piffed I didn't actually take any pictures of the all the great rides we did over the Thankgiving vacation. Headed out for a quick ten miles on my own, last Wednesday, to warm up the legs. Managed to do a loop in around 41 minutes.  Chris-in-Law showed up with his bike, Dave-in-Law showed up an his Cross bike "Jake". Thanksgiving Day early, We headed out to Jamaica North heading South into the wind. Rode about 18 miles, before it was time to turn around and head off to dinner, of course, I'm going slower and slower, I trade bikes with Creepy to try out the Surly Fixie. He says "This Tire is Flat", Cripes. We change the tire (brought a spare for once). Heading back home, still can't keep up, second tube is going flat. Grrrrr, pump up tire, limp home. Take Tire apart and find staple in tread, just sticking out enough to slowly wear a hole in tube. The next day we headed out with Papa Jeff, Try to find away around Southwest High to get to trail, follow path, follow deer, hop fence, cross track, cross ditch, cross field. Find Trail. Head down the crushed rock trail again, till the Boys on point hear gunfire, so we turn around and race home before it gets any darker, not a big fan of the march to the Winter Solstice. Still another 19 miles under the patched tire, little easier on full tires....

Enjoying the Fall biking

Got up morning after the football game, feeling crappy. Dug up all my cold weather gear, since it said 42 degrees outside. Wool socks, leg warmers, long sleeve base, jersey, hat, powerfleece, vest. Little warm, but I can take a layers off. Note to self, should have taken backpack to store aforementioned items. Enjoyed a coffee with Mr. Steve while he got on his "Togs". We headed out east to Bennett, into the Sun. Got warm fast. Struggled to get moving, then the road turned more east and we thought we were warmed up when actually it was a tailwind. Weather got better and better, nice 25 miles or so. Felt great coming into the garage. Love, Love, Love the Fall. Thanks Mr. Steve for proposing we go and stalling in the Am until it got a bit warmer.

Here is a picture of us going 40mph, into the wind, uphill.......yeah right, we are so old.

Construction makes biking choice even easier

With perfect September weather, and the roads closed around our neighborhood like a fugitive broke out of the prison, It was faster to take our bikes than to drive. So the boy and I rode to school, and then I rode out to Grain Bin to have a Peet's coffee with my Sister. The road closures around the elementary school are ridiculous. The weather is too nice not to ride, so its funny how the roads being blocked off can actually be good for me, I set a 5:10 second mark to get from my driveway to school, I'll have to see what the time averages out over the rest of the week.
